First let me tell you about yesterday afternoon. At about 4:30 pm we found out that Crescent Financial Corporation had just acquired Port City Capital Bank. Since this was the first we had heard this news and no one told us ahead of time, we really had to scramble to get news releases about the acquisition out. It was a fire drill in the office, but we got it DONE. Whew.
Today has been just as wild, with 15 different balls being tossed around the office and more work than you can shake a stick at. One of our clients has a national film crew showing up on their premises on Monday, and we’re running around with our collective hair on fire to manage everything. I really love learning about these things on a Friday afternoon.
I had lunch with Jim Tobin. Candy asked me if he behaved, and I told her, “No.” Of course not! Jim is the funniest guy I know and he always makes me laugh.
Kipp brought bagels today. Maybe there will be some left for me to munch on this weekend, since I will be here at the office working. I lead such a glamorous life.
More about my bestest-friend Mari Shooks: There’s Something About Mari … Mari had an e-mail response to what I said about her in the blog yesterday:
“You’ve got it wrong and I DEMAND a retraction. YOU are strange and I am wonderful!!! You are also a BAG!!!”
Sigh. Mari, Mari quite contrary … Mari is a mother, in more ways than one. She is also a grandmother, cook and a school nurse. I have tried to explain to her that a school nurse, you know, is not a real nurse. When a kid comes into Mari’s office with a runny nose, she gives him a gumdrop. When a kid comes in with a broken arm, he gets a gumdrop. When a kid is bleeding—you guessed it! A gumdrop!
Children like to come visit Mari when they’re bored, and the teachers let them do this. Mari keeps a log (you know how the government is) with notations like “PIA” which means: “Pain in Arse” for those malingering, chatty kids who make this kind of pesky behavior a habit. More on Mari on Monday (say that 3 times real fast)!

MMI Associates was contracted to handle media relations and to organize various efforts to open the communication lines between the construction entities on the project and motorists. The firm developed a strategic public relations campaign to ensure that local motorists and those passing through would be aware of the most up-to-date traffic patterns.
I am also the HEAD NURSE and in charge of teaching the finer techniques of gum drop administration to all my school nurses. I might add that they are catching on to the art but none are as adept as I am.
