5/23/06 Today With Patty ...

As I said, my mother is here from Tucson, and we head to Ireland on Thursday. As usual, I will start packing 25 minutes before we leave for the airport—not a minute before—and I will finish in the nick of time. Did I mention that I have superlative time management skills?

Today, I left Mom at home. Unfortunately, there is little food in the house, so I hope she’s able to scrounge up something to eat. Last night, I didn’t feed her dinner until ten p.m. Mom is significantly unimpressed with my domestic skills. Oh well, she is my mom, so she HAS to love me, right?

Yesterday I took Mom to see the best dentist in the whole world, miracle-maker Dr. Tarun Agarwal (Dr. “A”) of Dental Arts. Mom is 82 years old and getting cosmetic dentistry—what do you think of that? She doesn’t look a day over 55, and if you don’t believe me, just ask my staff.

In a moment of absolute good fortune, I broke a filling in my tooth yesterday before I took Mom to Dr. A. How lucky for me that this happened before I leave for Ireland instead of after! I was eating a candy orange slice when the tooth broke. Dr. A was swamped, but I talked my way in and was able to see him right after he finished with Mom. Dr. A and his wife just had a new baby boy, and Dr. A is the proudest daddy in the world.

We have been so busy at work, with tons of new projects going on. I made an offer to a new employee, and will tell you more about it later …

This morning I attended the Business Leader breakfast where MMI client Suzanne Burns spoke. Suzanne is Vice President and General Manager for Eaton’s power quality business and she gave a great speech. There must have been 30 advertising and marketing people in the room, which is unusual for a Business Leader breakfast. Normally the audience is mostly business owners. So what’s up with that?

Today Michelle and I attended an event held by MMI client Coldwell Banker Howard Perry and Walston at the RBC Center. Called an “Island State of Mind,” the event was a new homes fair open to Triangle realtors, and it featured new home neighborhood exhibit booths, an island themed lunch, and a drawing to win an original Fran Decker painting. There must have been 500 people at the event. It was so beautifully managed, I would have been proud to have called the event one of my own.
