Today we received the gloves and surgical masks I ordered for MMI in the event of a bird flu pandemic. One of our interns asked me if bird flu has anything to do with birds. This makes me wonder whether our local universities need to have a class for Journalism and Communications students called “Current Events 101.”
We have had printer problems all week, but today our VP of IT—my husband John—solved all our problems with a brand new printer. It took a while, though. First we tried to install the new printer without turning off any of our computers. This did not work, because the PCs freaked out one by one as they lost contact with the server, which turned all of its attention on the new printer and apparently neglected its other duties. Finally we had to turn off every PC, including the server, say a magical incantation and reboot. This worked.
Candy has been interviewing candidates on the phone all day. She says she is desperate to find someone who will stand out from the crowd, because all the candidates answer the questions in the same way. Have they all been seeing the same interview coach? Maybe they are all reading the same articles on the Web about “How To Respond To Those Tough Interview Questions.”
There’s Something About Mari … Tomorrow is Mari’s birthday and she will be 158 years old. Those of you who live in Connecticut, be sure to list to WILI radio, because every year I send the radio station a letter about Mari and her foibles.
