Today I was out of the office with Michelle. We drove to a small town in NC where I’d never been before to meet with a potential new client. I think this client will be really fun, and I want their business. We can do great things for them.
When we asked this potential client for a recommendation where to eat lunch, he named a certain restaurant if we wanted “real BBQ.” We stopped there, and trust me, the place was not impressive from the outside, but the food … ah, the food! We ate BBQ, hush puppies, sweet potatoes and coleslaw. For all of you unfamiliar with Carolina BBQ, just know that you usually can’t get real BBQ unless the screen door is hanging off the place. The bigger the dive, the better the food.
Kipp is going on vacation, which really annoys me. No one should take vacation but me. Kipp in particular should never take vacation, because I depend on him so much. But I am suffering in silence—as always. Nicole, on the other hand, is whining loudly: “But with Kipp gone, who will help me with my work?”
We’ve been fighting over food at MMI lately, specifically my picnic basket of goodies on top of the microwave. Nicole took my red licorice from the basket and ate it all, which made me threaten her with dire consequences if she ever does it again. Then Candy pointed out that Ryal keeps his bagels in the basket, so the office assumed that it was a “community” basket of food. I am now hiding my goodies in secret places.
This afternoon, I opened the office refrigerator and yanked out a Tupperware container with chunks of rotting chicken in it, yelling, “Who does this belong to?” No one would claim it. It’s a mystery where the chicken came from and who intended to eat it, but it’s been in the refrigerator going on 4 weeks now, and I’m throwing the whole thing out. I suspect Kate put it there before she left.
Today was Chelsea’s last day. She was our first ever high school intern and I really only took her as a favor to a friend. For sixteen years old, Chelsea is an incredible writer. I invited her to come back as a paid employee in the fall. You can read Chelsea’s blog below.

MMI Associates was contracted to handle media relations and to organize various efforts to open the communication lines between the construction entities on the project and motorists. The firm developed a strategic public relations campaign to ensure that local motorists and those passing through would be aware of the most up-to-date traffic patterns.
Hi Patty,
The universe often works in strange ways. My wife and I moved to Hillsborough early last month and now that we can see the floor I am focusing on the task of marketing my professional services. She and I had been discussing the need for professional marketing help and I had started looking for a local company to discuss my needs(which, given my lack of skill in this area, are many!). If you are still with me at this point you are probably wondering, what does this have to do with the universe? Well, yesterday as my wife was reading USA TODAY she came acrosss an article on meetings (an area of interest to my practice)and the comments by Candy Pitcher. That article led me to your site.
I have no idea if I am the type of person you work with (I am my company) but I would be interesed in a conversation to see if what I’m looking for fits what you offer.
Thanks,
Bruce Reed
