Flower Fiasco

by Nicole

Great! It is the day of the event and everything is well on its way to being a huge hit! I walk into the room and the food smells great, the wine is stocked, and the guests are about to arrive…but where are the flowers? I scan the room and to my surprise I see one vase of beautiful flowers. One Vase! There is a whole room to fill and there is only one vase! For two seconds I loose my mind and freak out. When I finally get over myself … “We can make this work.” I quickly get on my cell phone, which is my lifeline when I am at an event, and call the florist. After a quick phone call the delivery guy is on his way with more arrangements…but it gets better. The guests are beginning to arrive and there are still no flowers. As soon as they walk in the door and admire my new cute suit, I pour them a glass a wine (hint #1- Wine always makes the party.).  The flowers finally arrive and as the guests are mingling around the room, I begin filtering in the new flowers arrangements to the party. At the end of the night, after I carry 5 boxes of wine down the 4 flights stairs in 3” heels, the President of the company graces me with her appreciation: “Nicole, you did such a lovely job!” She had no idea about any of the mishaps. The moral of the story: When planning your party make sure you go over in detail exactly what you are expecting. And most of all when you are faced with a challenge sit back and remember you are in control and fix it.  It may be hard to admit when you’ve messed up, but if you don’t try to make things right they will defiantly get worse. Remember Oscar Wilde said: “Experience is simply the name we give our mistakes.”
