Garden of Good and Evil 5/2/06

MMI is both good and bad for me. The writing I do here is interesting, challenging and involves nearly endless variety. That part I love.

What I hate is the endless temptation … the cheesecake, brownies, cookies, candy and birthday cakes. Here I am trying to lose weight, and every day I have to walk past the most tempting goodies you can imagine. It’s torture.

All the account executives are young twenty-somethings with flat bellies and firm bodies. Diet? They’ve never tried it, never had to. They eat all they want and never gain a single pound. They eat french fries every day. For me, french fries are a once-every-three-months treat.

I remember when I was in college, I thought I was too skinny, so I drank this stuff called “Weight-On.” It was pink and tasted like chalk. I never gained a pound after drinking it for three weeks. I guess I walked it off going to classes all over a big campus at C.U. in Boulder, Colorado.

Now the longest walks I take are on my treadmill in front of the television set.
