I have been with Patty for a loooooooong time. Not only have I been an intern, but I’ve seen most of the good ones, the funny ones, the interesting ones, and the unforgettable ones come and go. Never before in my two years at MMI Associates, Inc. have I witnessed what I did today at the office.
It was a hot afternoon at MMI – blazing if you ask the northerners around here. Miss Candy was seated quietly at her desk with the rest of the crew, busy working to beat the clock. The boss was out, so no one could have predicted the drama that was about to occur. (After all, who would have thought we could have drama around here without Patty?) Our favorite South Carolina intern, Rob, emerged from the conference room where he had been making a few local calls for Ryal. It was at that moment that we heard it…the ascending footsteps of authority, heading up the stairs to MMI.
Officer Harris entered the office with a stern glare at us all. “Which one of you called 9-1-1,” he said without a smile. MMI chins hit the floor and eyes popped wide-open, as we all searched the office for the culprit among us. Rob stood up bravely (with his face as hot as this day) and, shocking everyone here, confessed to the crime.
Thankfully, Officer Harris was a kind man. He accepted the bribe of one of Jenna’s chocolate-chip cookies and left Rob with us in the office, but only after threatening to take him in on the charge of being from South Carolina.
On behalf of Rob, we at MMI would like to thank Jenna and her mom for the cookies that saved his life, and most importantly Officer Harris of the Cary Police Department for giving us one of the greatest moments that MMI has ever seen.
As for you, Rob, don’t worry. We all have fat-finger syndrome sometimes. But what will make this day even more incredible for the rest of us is the fact that we all know that you dialed 9-1-1 by mistake in an attempt to dial 9-1-9…in Raleigh…while making a local phone call. As my grandma would say, “bless your heart.” We’ll miss you around here.

MMI Associates was contracted to handle media relations and to organize various efforts to open the communication lines between the construction entities on the project and motorists. The firm developed a strategic public relations campaign to ensure that local motorists and those passing through would be aware of the most up-to-date traffic patterns.
