As women, I feel we have it much better than men. Sure we have to bear children and our hormones rage out of control at certain times of the month, but other than that, we have it made in the shade. Most people would say the number one advantage of being a girl is the ability to get whatever you want. We get in free to clubs, there is always “Ladies Night” somewhere, and we have the uncanny ability to bat our eyes and smile to get whatever we want, from new coolants in our cars to being pushed to the nearest gas station and getting our tanks filled up when we run out of gas in the Wendy’s parking lot.
Although I agree with this statement – I have had many bar tabs magically disappear – I would have to say the best thing about being a girl is the accessories! Myself, I have a major addiction to purses. I won’t tell you how many I have, but I will say I am approaching on three digits. I love unique purses that no one else has, and some, to be totally honest, could never pull off carrying what I have carried. It’s all about confidence, knowing that your purse is the most rocking purse out there and you don’t care what anyone thinks because you know they are secretly jealous. I have every size, color and texture you would ever want, which is why I am running out of purses to buy. And go figure, my dad’s neighbor, Laura Lee, designs purses! Of course I made him get me one, the M Bag, which I absolutely love.
Another reason I love being a girl is that we get to smell good. I am a perfume lover – I love a lot of different smells and I like to have a lot of options, as I like to match my perfume to my mood, outfit or season. Although I don’t want to give away all my secrets, I will let you in on what my favorites are: Marc Jacobs, Blush by Marc Jacobs, Strenesse by Gabrielle Strehele, Light Blue by Dolce and Gabbana, Burberry, Shi by Alfred Sung, and Miracle So Magic by Lancome. One of my new favorites is Japanese Cherry Blossom perfume from Bath and Body Works. The best present I ever received was a perfume sampler box. My aunt loaded me up with vial size samples of about 20 perfumes – I loved it!
I am a TJ Maxx and Marhsall’s shopper all the way – I am a definite bargain shopper and have a house full of clearance items. Some of my best purchases: a brown checkered leather ottoman for $25, a $250 Cole Haan purse for $60, a $275 Lovcat Purse for $50 and my favorite recent purchase – a $150 Bestey Johnson purse for $60 (was not on clearance but I could not resist – I had to show you!). I will say, however, that shoppers in Raleigh don’t mess around. In Greensboro, I would “purse stalk.” There was a Marshall’s right down the road from me, and I would go in there at least 4 times a week to keep an eye on what purses were on clearance. I would wait as long as possible to buy, as my main goal was to have at least two red clearance stickers on whatever I bought. Here in Raleigh, however, you have to buy as soon as you see something you like. I am going home this weekend, so hopefully I will find some good bargains!
