Iatria– Electrolysis
At Iatria Spa and Health Center we offer several treatment options to remove unsightly or unwanted body hair. One of them is a process called electrolysis.
Electrolysis is a common term used to describe hair removal with electrical current. A tiny probe is inserted into the hair follicle in the skin where the hair is growing. Electric current is delivered to the bottom of the follicle to destroy the vascular tissue that supports the hair. The hair is then removed with sterile forceps and the area is left to heal.
When performed correctly, electrolysis is permanent hair removal that will leave no indication that the treatment has been performed. It is relatively painless too; if you have ever used a pair of tweezers to remove unwanted hair, then you know how it feels to receive electrolysis.
This method is different than laser hair removal in a few ways, such as which target tissue in the hair follicle is being treated. Most importantly, electrolysis will treat lighter shades of hair such as red, blonde or gray, while laser hair removal cannot. And if you have a combination of light and dark hairs, chances are you will need electrolysis to have successful removal of all those hairs, no matter what other treatment you are using.
While “electrolysis”: http://www.iatria.com/ms_hairremoval.htmlresults are permanent, they are not instantaneous. Only enough current is administered to affect the cells within the follicle to disengage the hair for easy removal. If the follicle later produces another hair, then the process is repeated until the follicle no longer produces a hair. With electrolysis, closely spaced treatments are necessary to treat the emerging hairs. As the hair growth slows, the treatments get shorter and farther apart until the hairs no longer are growing and the skin appears as if it had never been treated, by which time the series of treatments is finished. Fees are based on the time needed for the technician to provide the service for each treatment, so naturally the fewer hairs needing treatment, the cheaper the cost.
If you choose to have electrolysis, then you must discontinue any method of temporary removal for about a week before treatment and resort to clipping the hairs until two days before treatment. The hairs must be long enough to be removed to prevent the risk of infection, so you may not be able to have them treated if you have shaved recently.
Iatria employs a trained electrologist, therefore the risk of scarring from the process is very small. Immediately after treatment, you should experience a tiny red lesion at each treated follicle, much like an insect bite, that will disappear shortly after treatment and the area will return to normal. If there is continued redness for several days or visible scabbing, especially on the face, please report this. The solution could be as simple as changing the type of electrode because of your allergy to the metal used.
So if you think you are eligible for electrolysis, make an appointment for a free consultation to learn more about it or any of the other hair removal treatment options offered. Your hair removal problems can become history if you make this choice now.
