I’m wrapping up the end of my second week back at MMI, and I’m wondering what happened to all the time between my last day here and my new first day, last Monday. Last week was a whirl. I found myself sitting on the wrong side of the room with people who weren’t here when I left, wondering how all of this work on my desk had piled up so quickly. It didn’t take long to get back into the swing of things…good thing too, since I didn’t have time for it to take long.
I remembered instantly how much I loved having Kipp and Nicole in my life. There’s nothing like having a few good friends in the office to make the day ridiculously interesting. If you know these two, you’ll understand. If you don’t, I’m thinking your days can’t possibly be as funny as mine. Coming back to find Candy and Michelle here made it even better. I’d be a total wreck right now if I hadn’t had Candy to take care of me last week. And Ryal, (new to me, not to the office) has blown me away with his amazing mentoring skills. (I let him think I need him every now and then to make him feel good. It’s the least I can do to make up for all the times I’ve butchered the pronunciation of his name with my southern twang.) I’m excited to see Kate and Elizabeth here too. I remember the feeling of being the new girl and I don’t want that one back, but these two are handling it with style.
Of course it only took one second with Patty, the Queen of my comeback, to send the reality check flying right at me. The reality, in case you’re wondering, includes the following:
·I’m going to spend the rest of my days here working my butt off.
·Future weeknights out will END (not begin) by midnight.
·Work means so much more than 8:30-5.
·Patty is not just my boss – she’s also my third mom.
·I’ll need to carry headache medicine in my purse 24/7.
·And most importantly, I’ve just rejoined the greatest PR team in the world.
In my first two weeks back I’ve been yelled at, laughed at, fed, loved, exhausted, pampered, thanked, bombarded, and welcomed. This is my life now. It’s a good thing I love it!
