WINDHAM, CONN. – Mari-Carole Shooks, RN, has been selected as the 2007 recipient of the Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing. The award recognizes registered and licensed practical nurses throughout the state of Connecticut who have made a significant impact on patient care, shown commitment to the community, risen beyond the call of duty and upheld a standard of life-long professionalism. Shooks has worked as head nurse for Windham Public Schools for more than 20 years, serving as the liaison between school nurses, physicians, administrators and nurses in multiple towns. In addition, Shooks is employed as the office nurse for Mansifeld Pediatrics in Mansfield, Conn., is an active member of several community boards and is a member of the bell choir at St. Joseph Church in Wilimantic.
“I am both honored and excited to receive such a distinguished award,” said Shooks. “I am thankful for the opportunity to work with such an amazing community, and I feel blessed to be a part of so many individuals’ lives.”
About Mari-Carole Shooks:
Mari-Carole Shooks, R.N. graduated from the Mount Sinai Hospital School of Nursing in Milwaukee, Wis. in 1970. As an active community member, Shooks has worked with children and families of Windham, Conn. since 1984. Shooks was appointed as the head nurse for the Windham Public Schools and works as the office nurse for Mansfield Pediatrics. She continues to make an impact in her local community through her involvement in local community boards including the American Cancer Society, Windham Free Library and Windham’s Health and Safety Committee. She serves as a member of the bell choir at St. Joseph Church in Wilimantic.
