NC Schools Improving Local Home Resale Values

by Rich

I came across the Web site for Public Schools of North Carolina today and was very pleased with what I found. North Carolina schools are making improvements in their national rankings – all during one of the most significant periods of population growth in recent memory for our state. Raleigh’s population, in particular, according to the City of Raleigh Web site, has increased over 25 percent since the census in April 2000, and this growth does not look like it will be letting up any time soon! For us builders, this is music to our ears.

Take-a-ways

From the site, I learned that:

• The 2007 National Assessment of Educational Progress showed reading and mathematics improvement for grade schools in North Carolina.
• North Carolina students have increased their ACT college admissions exam scores in 2007.
• Five North Carolina public schools have been named 2007 No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon Schools for significant progress and high achievement.

And that matters to builders because…

You may be wondering why a builder would get so excited about school ratings. Three reasons:

• These scores reflect favorably upon our state. Go North Carolina!
• A solid educational reputation is a popular selling point for many homebuyer families.
• For those without children, educational improvement can also increase the resale value of your home, according to the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency.

So, on behalf of North Carolinians, home builders, home buyers and our local communities, congratulations to our North Carolina educational system on a job well done! Better schools equate to more growth in the Triangle, and more growth spurs success in all industries across the state.
