Once again the ladies of MMI hit the town in style! After a hard day at the office Kate and I went for after-hour drinks at Bogarts in downtown Raleigh. The service was excellent, Chris, the bartender, was very attentive and gave excellent martini suggestions. He also filled us in on the infamous bar tending book, no I am not referring to a drink manual, it is much juicer than that! Kate and I were presented with the “little black book” and swore not to reveal it’s secrets, but being in PR we knew we had to tell someone! This book gave an inside look on the “real life” of a bartender. Stories ranging from the largest tip, mortifying moments, how to handle a costumer and best of all, the list of phone numbers. Who know this stuff really existed, it was hilarious! Some of the numbers you couldn’t make out or they were scribbled out and rewritten because somebody had a few to many cocktails!
It gets better. After speaking with many people in the restaurant we notice there is a huge party on the back deck, and of course, you know Kate and I can’t be left out of a party so we decided to join in! After walking through the door to the registration desk we realized it was a party for ECU alumnus, being in PR you have to be quick on your feet, so we gave our name and said we were part of the Class of 2000! Go Pirates! Arrrghh! It was a great party, good food and nice people we had a lot in common with, well besides the fact that we did not attend ECU. I like to think, the more the merrier!
Now for the good stuff! Recommendations! Thursday night at Bogarts is a must, it is Lady’s Night and they offer ½ price martinis. The Maltese Falcon was a bit strong for my taste, the Jolly Apple was a close comparison to the famous Apple Martini, Kate’s favorite was the Watermelon Jolly Rancher and my personal favorite was the Lady from Shanghai (Mandarin infused vodka, Grand Marnier, sweet & sour, and a splash of Sprite). As far as food, we kept it fairly simple, Kate had the Jumbo Lump Crab Dip with pita points and I had the Bogey’s Brochette with overnight tomatoes and olive tapenade, goat chesses, toasted almonds and balsamic syrup on crusted bread. The weekend is just getting started and there is much more in store! Tonight we head to the Blue Martini for good food, jazz music, and friends!
