On Sale: Cat Sweaters

by Caroline

My friends have branded me the “crazy cat lady”— it is something I have gotten used to the past couple of years living at one point with three cats in my small college apartment (now it’s just two.) So it’s no wonder that certain cat stories seem to catch my curiosity. There’s this specific story that really catches my eye—a woman in Colorado loved her cat so much that she just felt the need to “wear” her cat. Yes, I mean wear, but thankfully no cats were harmed.

Susanne Owen spent years collecting her cat’s shedded fur; years of picking up furballs, brushings and combings resulted in 5 pounds worth of purrrrfectly good yarn material. She then had the fur made into yarn and employed a friend to knit a sweater for her. The second I read about this on Digg my eyes went straight to Oscar (my cat) and this mischievous laugh, like a madman planning a take over of Earth, erupted from my mouth. Oscar is a long-haired Maine Coon gray/brown tabby — he is a perfect candidate for making a cat sweater. With all the fur lying around my apartment and sticking to my clothes, I am positive I would have the hottest sweater in all of Raleigh.

I’ve already started collecting the fur.
