Processes and Procedures

by Candy

This week we learned first-hand about the importance of business processes. It is not about rules or control – it is about developing procedures and methods to sustain the business.

Spending many years at GM (based on this week’s plant closing announcements, I am glad I am out of GM), I learned that processes and procedures are a good thing. Every action in an assembly plant is documented. It does not matter who is installing the gas tank or assembling the headlight – it is always done the same way every time – guaranteeing the same high quality results.

Documented and consistent processes are good for us too. From a common format for news releases to requesting time off, we are integrating formal processes into our business. Unfortunately, this week a client alerted us to a broken process. No fear. We figured it out and have developed controls so that mistake will not happen again.

Since we do have a process for requesting time off – and I followed the process – I am out of here – off to see my daughter and fiancé in Nashville, Tennessee. Happy Thanksgiving.
