"Real World" PR

After college graduation, I, like many others, aggressively began my job search in the public relations field. Perhaps a bit naïve, I thought this would be an easy task. I was sorely mistaken (surprise, surprise). But every interview was a learning experience and I tried to take away as much information and advice from each person I spoke to in the field.

During my job search, I was told more than once that what I learned in college was completely different in the “real world” of public relations. This scared me. If PR was different from everything I was taught, how would I survive in the PR world?

After joining MMI, I realized that this was true – “real world” PR is different from “college PR.” While certain skills from college are applicable, every day in the PR world is a learning experience.
