I love looking through other people’s iPods – it really does give you a good picture of that person. For the longest time, I fought the iPod. I had a massive CD case that held about 300 CDs, and I pretty much had that sucker full. I loved my CDs! I knew what was on each one and I had about any song you would ever want to hear. Most of my CDs were burned mixes, and each one had its own mood and personality. I felt if I got an iPod, I would lose all my songs in the mix and I would lose my entire organizational system. However, after a few years, I caved in and asked for one for my birthday, but I strongly stipulated that I had to have some way to listen to it in the car, as that is when I listen to music the most – it’s like my sanctuary.
So what am I listening to? My pick of the moment is JoJo. She has one of those voices that give you chills and she is very soulful. I know all of you remember her first hit, “Leave (Get Out),” and that was the anthem of the summer. I want to point out, however, that at the time she recorded the CD, she was 13 years old, or possibly younger depending on how long it took to record. Yes, you heard me right, 13! I know most of you are like “whatever,” but I would strongly suggest downloading her song “Weak,” from her first album. Although the song is a remake of the SWV song of the same title, she is absolutely amazing. I remember thinking that there was no way this girl could be 13. I loved the CD and still listen to it.
Well, JoJo is back with a vengeance. Her new CD, The High Road, is a sure-fire hit. Our little girl has grown up, and so have her lyrics, but her voice is still as great as it ever was. With producers like Swizz Beatz and Scott Storch, this album is H-O-T! My favorite picks from this CD are “This Time.” “The Way You Do Me,” “Like That,” and “Let It Rain.” Let me just add here that she is now 16, but her talent far surpasses her years. I would definitely watch out for her, as she will be a force to seriously be reckoned with as the years go on. (You can listen to her entire CD on the G105 Web site)
So what else am I listening to? Lately its been a mix of Beyonce, Aaliyah, Fergie, Third Day, and the “classics” from my generation – old school Mariah Carey (Dreamlover, Honey, etc) and the original Christina Augilera. Of course, I have a great 80s mix and even a few Disney songs. I am all over the place, and I absolutely love it!
