Good and Bad PR

Stand Up to Cancer

by Kate Catlin

As I was straightening my hair before work one morning this week I was surprised to see Katie Couric stroll timidly onto the set of the Today show with Brian Williams and Charlie Gibson. It took me a minute but I quickly realized that a couple of these people just don’t belong on my favorite NBC morning show.

The interesting combination of NBC, ABC and CBS peaked my interest and I listened carefully as the anchors described Stand Up to Cancer, an hour-long fundraising event set to air simultaneously on ABC, CBS, and NBC – a rare collaboration among the three major TV networks. The event was created by The Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), a nonprofit that draws on the entertainment sector. I say bravo to the networks for teaming up for such a worthy cause – great PR move! It definitely caught my eye.
