Thank You Grandma Gail!

by Elizabeth

As many of you regular blog readers may know, our office is strangely void of “goodies.” So, you can imagine how we were all feeling when we were informed that Allison’s Grandma Gail was sending us a package. Although Allison knew what was in the package, she would not tell anyone. All we knew is that it included lunch, and was something that made Washington, NC famous. I was a complete skeptic; “Lunch? Are you sure it’s not just sweets? How can that be?” Needless to say, I had some off-the-wall guesses, which included: Salisbury steak, fried chicken, macaroni and cheese and smoked salmon. Really, what was I thinking??!!

The package was coming via UPS. We all were like kids on the lookout for Santa – gazing out the window hoping to see that beautiful brown truck pull up. About 10:30, we saw it. We ran to the window, hoping the UPS man would stop in with our lunch goodness. Well, he came, he got out, he went somewhere else. Our faces looked like Santa had left us some rocks on Christmas morning. All day, I kept hearing “Do you see the UPS truck?” Allison had informed us that UPS usually came between noon and 1p.m., so around 12:45, we began to worry as our stomachs told us that lunch was overdue. To fill the void, Allison provided some peanuts from Hampton Farms in three flavors, regular, spicy (and they are not kidding!) and, our favorite, chocolate.

Finally, we saw it! The UPS man pulling a dolly with a huge box! He didn’t even open the door – we had it open for him. We cheered, complete with fist pumps. We ripped the box open, and I know I could not stand the suspense. First we found the “goodies” we had been wanting; each of us received a bag full of chocolaty treats, a chocolate spoon, and MMI received our own container of chocolate covered chips – YUM! A quick thanks to Allison’s mama for making the spoons and sending the box – we love you Terry!

By now, I bet all of you are just dying to know what our lunch was! It was…..hot dogs from Bill’s Hot Dogs in Washington, NC famous. These were not your ordinary hot dogs by any means. They were very tasty and had awesome chili – we all had more than one!

Grandma Gail did hook it up by sending about 50 hot dogs, so we have some to spare. I know it is the holiday season, but I’m sorry to say that we are NOT SHARING! However, we may consider selling them at a charge of $10 per dog, but I seriously doubt it. Grandma Gail, you are our favorite! You really made our day, and probably our week, as we don’t have much food around here!

  1. Just to let you know that I remember eating Bills Hotdogs since forever, I used to pay .50 cents for them. They are still less than $1.00 each. I lived in Huntsville Alabama for a while and would you believe that I saw a special about Bills Hotdogs of Washington. You never know when you will be famous. Terry & I had a fun time doing this little thing, hope all of you enjoyed it too.
    Love to all of you
    Grandma Gail
