2006 Men In Business

Today was a very different day at MMI Associates, Inc.. The men and women at our office took two entirely different approaches to the afternoon, both productive and completely fulfilling, but each very different in its definition of “taking care of business.” The ladies of office took care of business by attending the 9th annual Woman in Business Awards, hosted by the Triangle Business Journal. Dressed to the nines, equipped with designer handbags and professional smiles, Nicole, Patty, Michelle and Allison left for the award ceremony to support the 9 clients (or closely MMI associated businesses) that were recognized as 2006 WIB winners. Clients and friends recognized today included Dottie Burch of Ragsdale Liggett PLLC, Diane Kuehn of VisionPoint Marketing, Judy Smith of Smith Seal of NC, Debbie Houston of Coldwell Banker Howard Perry & Walston, Suzanne Burns of Eaton Power Quality Systems, Julie Clark of Crescent State Bank, Mary Lou Powell of Rex Hospital and Karen Ross of Montgomery’s Florist. Elaine Marshall, Secretary of State and good friend of MMI, was awarded with the lifetime achievement award. A third of all 2006 WIB winners belonged to us today. A wonderful day and huge success for all parties involved.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m proud of our MMI ladies and absolutely delighted that they had the opportunity to attend today’s WIB event. The perfect occasion for friendly networking and constant shouts of “that’s my girl,” I’m sure. I must admit though, I can’t say that I’m the least bit jealous. Why you ask? The men of MMI, Kipp and myself included, took a more southern barbequed approach to “taking care of business” today. Dressed for a mess and equipped with a stockpile of bibs and wet wipes, the men of MMI celebrated the 1st ever Men In Business (MIB) awards, hosted by Ole Time Barbeque. Where the ladies sipped on champagne and carefully chewed their perfect white chicken, MIB award winners gulped down an endless stream of sweet tea and quickly devoured all the fried chicken or barbeque pork we could physically get our mouths around. Seriously, if you could shut your eyes and imagine a barbeque joint, this would be your place of choice. Trucks filled the parking lot and blue-collar workers filled the booths. The music didn’t exactly stop when we entered the place, but you could tell we weren’t exactly locals. The best part of this place, aside from all the free refills on hushpuppies and sweet tea, was that the two of us were eventually welcomed with open arms. It’s amazing what eating an entire entree in less than 7 minutes can do for your credibility around these parts. By the ceremony’s end, Kipp and I took a huge step towards becoming ole time regulars. If that’s not “taking care of business” we have no idea what is.

Public Relations for the N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) U.S. 1/64

MMI Associates was contracted to handle media relations and to organize various efforts to open the communication lines between the construction entities on the project and motorists. The firm developed a strategic public relations campaign to ensure that local motorists and those passing through would be aware of the most up-to-date traffic patterns.
