I had a busy night last night. I did the mid-meeting of the 2007 North Carolina Education Ball Committee to benefit Communities In Schools of North Carolina. Orage and Linda Quarles are chairing the committee, and we will be sponsoring the event in June. From there, Ryal and I headed to an open house with Sepi Asefnia at her company, SEPI Engineering Group. We were a little late, but there was still a really good crowd there when we arrived.
But here is the best part: We had to stop at Iatria Day Spa: before going to the Cardinal Club, and rather than try and park downtown, I decided to run in and let Ryal drive around the block several times. Ryal passed by one of his buddies from his softball team, and of course he was dressed in a suit and just sort of gave the guy a little wave. So when Ryal arrived at his softball practice later last evening, the rest of his team started asking him why he was driving a Mercedes. He told them that he has the best job ever and that it is his company car. How long do you think he will be able to keep that one going? Don’t I know that he will be taking my car to practice a couple of other times to keep this myth alive.
I am not so thrilled with Jason’s Deli. I had a Women’s Forum meeting for lunch today, and of course I had the time wrong – it started at 12:30 and not at 12 o’clock as I thought. And I knew I had to leave by 1 o’clock for a 1:15 team meeting. So I figured I would eat and run. However, Jason’s Deli had other plans. Apparently the gal (are you allowed to say gal?) who booked the luncheon did so online with them, and it was confirmed. So since I arrived at noon, I had the pleasure of helping to move all the tables and set up the chairs. Since I have to do this for a living, I am not exactly thrilled, but I pretended to be cheerful about it. The food was supposed to arrive at quarter to 12 for this 12:30 event. At 12:30, when someone called to check, we learned oops, there was a snafu. So at 1:05, as I am dashing out the door, in walks Jason’s Deli, and I said, “Just give me my sandwich,” and I left.
When I arrived back at the office five minutes late – mind you, we are not allowed to be late to team meetings, and it is my rule – I am hungry. So I open my sandwich, and it is a beautiful croissant with what looks like to be maybe egg salad, or chopped chicken, or even perhaps tuna fish. I still do not know what it was – and I ate the thing! What I do know is that the meat/fish-like substance was very mysterious. And there were things in there that I could not identify. Maybe they were little nuts, or maybe not. Something was crunchy. And I think the yellow stuff was maybe pineapple, but it kind of looked like corn – but it sort of tasted like pineapple. I do not like eating what I cannot identify and so I am going to have to go on the Internet and look at the menu and see if I can figure out what it was.
This will be my last blog for a week, as I am heading out to Phoenix on Sunday. I will be spending Sunday and Monday in Tucson with family and clients, where I am sure I will be in a fetal position after two days from family – not clients. Then it is back to Phoenix for the Women Presidents’ Organization conference. I am really looking forward to hearing author Jim Collins of Good to Great and Built to Last speak. Rumor has it he will be introducing some new data from his research. I will keep you posted. Until then, Wesley will be blogging for me, so feel free to post your comments.
