I am a happy girl today. I spent the weekend doing one of my favorite things in the world – sailing. Yes, I know it was cold, but it did not matter. We drove down to Beaufort on Friday to meet some friends. They have a SAGA 43 named Intrepid, and she is a beautiful boat. We ended up not being able to sail on Saturday because the winds were 30-35 mph gusting up to 50 mph, which increases the risk of a knockdown. I hate when that happens. When I woke up and saw whitecaps in Taylor’s Creek, I suspected there would not be much sailing that day. But it was a great excuse to lie around, eat, drink, take a nap and shop. Speaking of eating and drinking, we tried out the new Aqua restaurant in Beaufort, and the food was fabulous.
Sunday we awoke to a cold, clear day, with winds about 25 mph, although they were gusting and fluky. I have some very attractive photos of me in a wool watchman’s cap because it was so darn cold. We went from Beaufort to New Bern with most of our sailing in the Neuse River. It took us about seven hours, but when we arrived, we were cold, tired and very happy to have spent a glorious day on the water. I would like to say I have a lovely little sunburn, but it actually was a windburn. It was really pretty calm and warm in New Bern when we arrived, and we had a wonderful picnic with champagne in the cockpit to celebrate.
Of course, we did have to drive all the way back to Beaufort to get our cars, and then back to Raleigh after that. It was nearly 11 p.m. by the time we returned home to an anxious Katie Scarlet, who had been babysat by Ryal. You know I had a good time when I never once checked my e-mails for three full days. Of course I had 192 of them this morning when I arrived at work.
I received some happy news today. For those of you who remember LaDonna, well, guess what – she is pregnant! I could not be happier. She has wanted a baby for a long time, and I know she will be just the best mother ever.
A tanned and very relaxed Kipp Bodnar returned to work today from his honeymoon in Savannah, and everyone is really happy to have him back, although I think Ryal is the most relieved, as he has been having to handle a lot of Kipp’s workload this past week, which he did superbly.
So all in all, a good day. I am in a very good mood and looking forward to going sailing again.
