Today With Patty – Aug. 13, 2007

by Patty

I have just returned from the most perfect weekend ever. I went up to Grove Park Inn and I napped, laid by the pool, had a wonderful couples massage, went out to dinner and slept in. I am tanned, rested and relaxed. How long this feeling will remain, I do not know.

Katie had some girls over for the weekend, and surprisingly the house was not too trashed. But there has been a little chafing at the prospect of Aunt Patty casually inquiring as to what she is doing, where she is going and who she is with. As you can imagine, these inquiries have not been met with open arms. I find myself – gasp! – repeating things that my mother said to me. (“As long as you are living in my house, you will follow my rules” and “If everyone else jumped off a cliff, would you?” come to mind immediately.)

She moves into her dorm at Peace College on Saturday, and I suspect that I will not be suffering any “empty nest syndrome.” In fact, there may be some champagne popped, as this old couple is just not used to looking after kids. She has informed me, however, that we will be at Peace at 7:45 a.m. because she wants to make sure she gets the bed that she wants. Plus, I hear she is on the third floor, and I am going to love climbing those stairs to unload!

She is making dinner tonight, and we are having tacos. Of course that means my kitchen will be trashed. I will inform you as to how that goes.
