You know, in my world, I attend a million events. I am out almost every night at some random function for an award or something. It is not that I do not want to be social; it is just that after 13 years of it, it becomes work. I went to A Little Night Music last night, dragging John, who was kicking and screaming the whole way with the thought that it would be the usual chicken and white wine, “How soon can I get out of here and go home?” affair. Well, I was wrong, it was really a lovely evening. The people were nice – not that they are not always nice – but it was not the usual networking, it was just a low-key event. The music was really good. The singers were awesome. I should tell you that before the performances, people were milling about in the crowd. I see two guys, both of them wearing the same dark shirt and orange tie, and the two of them were standing together all the time. I cannot even tell you what was going through my head with those two guys dressed so differently and identically. Then a third guy came over to them wearing the same outfit, and a fourth one too, and I got what they were doing was attending the event as a barbershop quartet. You probably do not know this about me, but I love barbershop quartets. How weird am I? The group’s name was Doppler Effect. Also singing was Tara Lynn Sharrock, who won Fox 50’s “Gimme the Mike” contest recently. She was a showstopper.
This morning I attended the Council of Public Relations Firms thought leadership breakfast. It was thoughtful and informative, and a great opportunity to meet many other firms in the area and get to know them. The only problem was that I drank real coffee when someone told me it was decaffeinated – a definite no-no, as I cannot handle caffeine. Kate said I need a bracelet to let people know I only am allowed to drink decaffeinated.
I went to lunch at 115 Midtowne and had the warm chicken salad, which was really good. I have to get myself in shape because tomorrow night we are having a “drinks with Patty” night at Jack Astor’s Bar and Grill, where we are inviting our friends and the media to meet the new managing partner, Jim Mallon, and get everyone filled with Christmas spirits (so to speak – get it?).
