Today With Patty – Dec. 6, 2006

Why do I think that I am invincible? When the periodontist says, “You need to take three to five days off after surgery,” why don’t I listen? When he says, “You need to take the painkillers,” why don’t I do that? Why, you ask? Is it because I am a loser, or is it because I think I am invincible? So, in case you could not tell, this whole gum graft I had Monday sucks. My mouth hurts – a lot – and I have a headache. Not just the normal headache, but the kind that feels like someone is driving a screwdriver into your eye socket and is moving it about your brain, that kind of headache. Oh, by the way, the Prednisone is kicking in, and just as I had heard, it affects your personality, so I am a raging … something that rhymes with “witch.”

I went to the Women Extraordinaire luncheon today at the North Ridge Country Club where the Lieutenant Governor and soon-to-be-our-next-Governor Beverly Perdue spoke. She really is an amazing woman, with so much smarts and so much heart. I am proud to know her. Two MMI clients won awards, Cindy Anderson, CEO of CD Anderson, and Linda Leake, president of execUchange. They both looked fabulous, and I am happy to say that they were the only ones who went up to have their pictures taken without their nametags on. Where are all the other PR people assisting their clients so that they do not have their dorky nametags on in their photos?

I have a presentation I am doing today on crisis PR that I am not as prepared as I would like to be to do it, but crisis PR is all about thinking on your feet, so I guess I will figure it out when I get there. I have another big presentation immediately following that one, and I am so glad I am doing that with a mouth that is killing me. On a happier note, today is my 31st wedding anniversary, and John is out of town, and I have to do this presentation this evening. Now, how romantic is that? I am thinking that last year at this time, I was on safari in Africa watching lions, elephants and rhinoceroses. I will be thinking about that tonight as I finally make it home and heat up some cold leftovers for dinner.
