I do not want to say I hate Christmas, but I might mention the fact that Christmas comes at a really inconvenient time for me. This should be a slow time of the year for us at MMI, and we are swamped (please God, do not take that the wrong way). I am not unappreciative of the business, but there is just so much of it at one time. It just seems that there are so many parties, events and work to do that it is getting to the point where it is not even fun. But that is not me talking, it is the Prednisone.
My mouth really, really, really hurts. It is not the sharp pain I was in before from the gum graft – it is the lingering ache of bone that has been mashed. And the suture that has been hanging down from the roof of my mouth and feels like a hair tickling me in my mouth is about to put me over the edge. So I am tired, sore and cranky – not a good combination.
I have just had meeting after meeting after meeting, where I go and promise to do stuff and come back and throw it in a pile. Beth, my new assistant, is hilarious, because she keeps telling me that I need to get some rest and that I should take tomorrow night as the time to do that. I laughingly explained to her that I have two client events tomorrow night. She said, “Well, you can take Saturday to relax.” You could hear my high-pitched cackle as I explained I have the all-day Speaking of Women’s Health event to attend. I heard Beth then say a tentative “Sunday?” and I explained that that day is when I catch up with my e-mails and go through the piles of material I accumulated from the meetings this week for activities I said I would do. So there is no joy in Mudville here today.
I did have a nice lunch at the new N.C. State Alumni Club today. It is a gorgeous facility. Those of you who read this blog regularly will know that Kate Shanahan, who used to work for MMI, is now director of marketing for the State Club, and she is doing a fabulous job. I sit on the conference table board, which is an advisory committee for the Wake County Visitors Center. Today was my first meeting, and as I walked into the room, I turned around and saw every heavy hitter in the area was there. I thought to myself, “Man, what am I doing here?!”
Got to go now – got another meeting.

MMI Associates was contracted to handle media relations and to organize various efforts to open the communication lines between the construction entities on the project and motorists. The firm developed a strategic public relations campaign to ensure that local motorists and those passing through would be aware of the most up-to-date traffic patterns.
