Today With Patty – Jan. 11, 2007

We have a rash of new employees and interns here at MMI, and they are all named either Kristin/Kristy/Kirsten or some mysterious made-up name that I have never heard before, nor can I pronounce or spell it. I just finished reading Freakonomics, where they talked about naming kids and the associated economic impact of certain names. Anybody who has known me for any length of time knows that I love to rename people, which Kipp says is the most evil thing to do. But a name is important in PR. Luckily Ryal had already ordered his business cards before I could change his name to Ryan.

For those of you who do not know, I work with an office full of Commie liberal bedwetting Democrats. I am the lone Republican in this office of 15. So whenever anything happens in the news, there is usually quite a bit of heated debate. And I knew it would be quite the discussion this morning after the President’s address to the nation last night. But then I realized that I would be the only one to actually watch our president, and the others would form their opinion by reading some random blog or through osmosis. Therefore, since no one had watched it last night, no one was allowed to talk to me about it.

We have had a full day of food here at MMI, starting with Cinnabon rolls compliments of Beth. Kipp of course was on a sugar high most of the morning, but what else is new? And we decided to go to Pei Wei, the fast food version of P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, for lunch. It was very good, but I have to tell you, it was way, WAY spicier that we have ever had from them before, and I am not sure that is a good thing.

I went to Trader Joe’s to get some meringue cookies shortly before Christmas, and they are light and fluffy and full of chocolate chips. Everybody has been eyeing them, waiting for me to open them. Since the staff finished off the oatmeal cookies in the MMI never-ending cookie jar yesterday, I decided to spring for the meringues. Kipp, recently coming down from his sugar high, hopped on the band wagon, but Ryal decided that since the cookies, which are packaged and sealed tightly in a plastic container, had been purchased three weeks ago, he was going to turn his nose up. I would like to report that Ryal ate burnt popcorn for lunch today. He has such a discriminating palate.
