Today With Patty – Jan. 17, 2007

by Patty

It is official. It is cold outside. I will have you know that I wore a coat to work today, and I am freezing my arse off. I think we need a really good snowfall this weekend while I am in Charleston enjoying myself.

Hey, check out Sue Stock’s blog at the News and Observer. Ikea is coming to Charlotte, and God I wish it was the Triangle. Kipp is already planning a field trip to go shopping there.

My friend Jennifer called me yesterday because she read on my blog that I had a new car and wanted to know why I did not call her to tell her I had a new car, and I explained to her that I had been trying to learn all the technological features of my vehicle. So Jennifer, who can be at times a bit – how do you say it? – anal (because she does everything perfectly), informed me that she reads the entire service manual for every car she buys. Of course she does. But of course she is a financial type, and they like that kind of thing. PR types tend to NOT lean towards reading manuals. People magazine, maybe – manuals, no. So I took her advice last night and grabbed my 400-page (yes, that would be 400 PAGES) car manual and skimmed through it to see what this car will do. I made it through 89 pages before my eyes glazed over and I fell off the couch.

So here are some things I learned.

  • This vehicle has voice recognition. Now, mind you, I do not know if it works, but I wonder if it can recognize “#/@%!”
  • I now can open the trunk, and apparently there are three different ways to do so. I am happy to announce that I have mastered all three. I am master of the trunk.
  • I learned on page 28 that there is an infrared receiver in the driver’s door. Who knew? Who cares?
  • And hey, I have an instrument cluster. (I need to get that removed. It could be contagious.) Some people call it a dashboard.

Tonight I am going to look up how to open the fuel door, because I am almost out of gas and have to know how to do it.

I also plan to tackle the radio, because the only thing I can receive on it so far is the NOAA weather channel that loops over and over again. And of course, with Sunny 93.9 having changed its format, I do not know what I am going to listen to, because you know I like “old people” music.

I am in the office all day today, and don’t you know that I look like a bag of dirt? But that is OK, because I am not seeing any clients – or so I thought. Of course two clients showed up this morning that I did not know were coming, and I have since found out that two more clients are coming this afternoon. My hair is slicked back and dirty, so I have to go now, as I must do something with my appearance and ensemble.
