Today With Patty – July 5, 2007

by Patty

I am now a big fan of having Wednesdays off. I first thought that July 4th being on a Wednesday would be a bust. But I was wrong. It is like having a Thursday and a Friday with the weekend in the middle of the week, followed by a Thursday and a Friday. I actually did not work on the 4th of July, which was also a benefit.

Instead, my niece Jake and I decided to check out some sales and we spent a good part of the morning at Cary Towne Center. I learned that Jake is an enabler. I ended up spending a lot of money, because she loved everything I picked up and said she thought I should have it, so I ended up buying all sorts of things. And then she made me go to the food court for lunch. I have not eaten at a food court for 20 years, and now I know why. I ended up with the worst Chinese food that I ultimately tossed in the garbage.

We then went to the pool, which was absolutely packed, and no chairs to be found. Luckily, I brought beer, and that made the experience much more enjoyable. Jake played water basketball and whooped a bunch of boys. I was so proud.

From there we met up with Uncle John, who refused to participate in shopping and/or swimming. He was, however, happy to accompany us to the neighborhood barbecue. After that, we played with sparklers (again without Uncle John – he does not do sparklers either) and then called it a day.

Today Jake has assumed a new role as the MMI receptionist, so if you want to try it out and see how she is doing, call her at 233-6600. We are off for tea later today – I will fill you in on that tomorrow.
