Today With Patty – April 10, 2007

by Patty

I am trying to get caught up from my weekend away sailing, but I am still in a good mood. I had a great lunch today at 18 Seaboard. I had mixed reviews last time I was at 18 Seaboard, because I was really disappointed with my experience there in February, but everyone else in my party had a good meal, so I retried it. The service was great, and I really enjoyed my steak salad. Here is what I really like about 18 Seaboard – it is downtown in Raleigh, but it has parking, and it is easy parking. So now, I am all for 18 Seaboard.

I am heading over tonight to Bryant-Phillips Associates and DreamMaker Bath and Kitchen of the Triangle, because upfitting the office downstairs is not nearly stressful enough, so I am having to rrenovate my guest bathroom and laundry room. John and I are headed over there to pick out tile, fixtures, counters and cabinets. I am sure John cannot wait. Frankly, I do not know why I even bother to bring him. Whenever we do a project like this, he always tells me that he has no opinion and that he does not care what I pick. So I will say, “Well, good, let’s get the red.” But he will say, “No, no, no, no, not the red.” So then I will suggest blue, and he will say, “No, no, no, no, not blue.” And then I will suggest purple, and what ultimately happens is that he does not care what color it is, as long as it is white. He always picks white – it is so much better to bleach and clean. Our bathroom is white now, and I can assure that it will not be white. I will keep you posted.

Job hunting tip #8: Your resume. If you are fresh out of school and looking for a job, you need to pay particular attention to your resume. If you had a lot of activities in school and were active in a number of clubs, or perhaps even had a leadership role in those activities, that is a much better use of your space than telling me about all the valuable PR and customer service experience you gained as a waitress at Red Lobster. Now, do not get me wrong – I like knowing that you were a waitress at Red Lobster, because that indicates to me that you are willing to work hard and are used to crap work. Just do not con me and tell me how your experience of carrying plates of scampi makes you qualified in public relations.
