Last night I went to the opening of the new corporate headquarters for Paragon Commercial Bank, and la dee dah, is it something! The place is very swish, with marble floors and Gone With the Wind style staircases. It is pretty amazing. And not only did they have big shrimp – they had a mountain of big shrimp with ice sculptures carved in the shape of the company logo. As Kipp said, it is not a party without ice sculptures.
The food was unbelievable. I did not eat much, but they had a pasta station and a Mexican station and chickens being braised with a blowtorch, and a big fancy pyramid of Tequila Sunrise in martini glasses. Speaking of Tequila Sunrise, you know how I like to talk with my hands? Well, a waitress snuck up behind me, and I accidentally knocked one of the drinks out of her hands onto Barbara Mulkey of Mulkey Engineers and her beautiful suit. I am such a loser. Of course, Barbara was so gracious, and yet I know she was all sticky for the rest of the party.
Speaking of sticky, it was unbelievably hot and miserable last night. Of course, they had all these open fires cooking the food, and torches. I think they were there for ambience, however I nearly set my hair on fire (literally), and I hate when that happens.
I have a garden party tonight, and we are supposed to be sitting outside, and it is so hot and humid today, it is going to be so miserable that I may have to consider taking my jacket off and allowing people to see my arms – and we know no one wants that. I look like a flying squirrel! I am very concerned about this, and I will let you know how it goes.
