Sunday I was sitting around at 10 o’clock at night in a sleeveless shirt enjoying a beautiful starry view in Phoenix. Today I am freezing my arse off in this glorious November weather we are enjoying in Raleigh. If it was just a few degrees colder, we would be driving in snow. I do not like to be cold, and I have been out in this weather all day long going to meetings and so forth, and my feet are wet. I cannot believe the number of accidents I have seen either – people act like they have never seen cold rain before.
Speaking of Phoenix, my nephew’s wedding was wonderful, and itt was one of the most fun weddings I have attended in a long time. My nephew is a very lucky man. I had a chance to catch up with some old friends and just generally had a really nice visit in the warm weekend weather. (Did I mention warm?)
Today I talked to a voice from the past, Gerry Luke, who I have not spoken to in years and worked with many years ago. It was really interesting to hear all the gossip about the people I used to work with.
Of course, I am looking forward to Thanksgiving. My niece Katie is coming and spending Thanksgiving with us and sending her application to Peace College. We will be traveling to Winston-Salem for Thanksgiving with my cousin “Lizard,” her husband Tom, and my auntie Sis. (Lizard’s real name is Elizabeth, but she was an only child, and the rest of us cousins felt it was necessary to torment her, hence the nickname. I will have to give you more details on this some other time in another blog.) Anyway, I am in charge of dessert. I had big plans with all the pies and pumpkin rolls I was going to make. Instead, I do not have time to make them, so I will have to buy some pies, although John has demanded that I make my Kahlua trifle. I had to explain to him that Kahlua trifle is not a traditional Thanksgiving dessert, as the Pilgrims and Indians did not have Kahlua and Heath bars. However, he asked for it, so I will probably be making it at midnight for him the day before Thanksgiving. How can I say no to him? There will be no leftovers from the meal, so guess who will get to make a turkey when we come back home? That would be me. Luckily, Katie is going to help me get a Christmas tree and decorations up – only she does not know that yet. Welcome to Raleigh, Katie!
