It has been a fat-filled day. It started with lunch when Kipp went to KFC to fetch us both their mashed potato bowls. I asked him to get one with no cheese on mine. It tasted fine, but they are light on the gravy and need to do a better job on that to get it moist.
We ordered a red velvet cake from Catering Works to wish Tim best of luck, as today is his last day of work here, sad to say. He is finishing up his last semester at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before moving out of town. Catering Works really knows how to make the best cake, with cream cheese icing and edible decorations. As I was taking a bite of one slice, Gloria asked me if I was still on the “no carb” diet. This is the same Gloria who brought her leftover Halloween candy such as Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups to the office today. I just rolled my eyes. She really knows how to hit below the belt!
I went to the inaugural meeting of The Northwestern Mutual Breakfast Club of the Triangle this morning. CBS sportscaster Billy Packer was the guest speaker. I do not know any sports, but he was hilarious. I enjoyed it immensely. By the way, we will be doing a podcast with him in the next day or so, so stay tuned. Everyone in the office is so excited about having his home and cell phone number, and I have had to have a “discussion” with them about not stalking him. Sorry Mr. Packer! The coolest thing of all was that Kate and I met the head of ticket sales for the Carolina Hurricanes, who is going to be a sponsor for the Northwestern Mutual Breakfast Club of the Triangle. Little does he know it, but he is going to be my new best friend, because I am on the board of every nonprofit in town, and I am always scamming for auction items and raffle items. Go Canes!
We have a team meeting every Friday afternoon. Normally we are very organized and right on it, get through it, it is done in one hour. But for some reason today, it got out of hand. Whether it was the cake, candy from Gloria, politically incorrect statements on Kipp’s part, we just had a good old high time at the meeting, and it was great.
This weekend I am going to meet up in Winston-Salem with some other friends of mine who John and I have not seen in years and years and years. One is flying into town and two are meeting us there. I have to lose 100 pounds between now and when we meet them at 6 p.m. tonight. I cannot figure out how I put on all this weight!
