Today With Patty – Oct. 16, 2006

by Patty

First off, great news – I found gas for $1.99 a gallon outside of Winston-Salem this weekend. Didn’t think I’d find it that low again for a loooong time.

The discovery came while John and I took a trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains for my cousin’s annual “Party at the Patch.” It’s a get-together she has every year, and it’s just really fun. She has a place up in the mountains, and it’s wonderful. The mountains are unbelievable and the colors of the leaves are outstanding. We took the convertible and drove with the top down and just had a fine time. I don’t usually have many weekends off, so I try to take advantage when I can.

On the way up, we stopped to see my Auntie Sis, who the family put in an assisted living place recently. You have to know that Sis may be 90 years old, but she’s still pretty hot. When we up there, I was worried about this place, but she seemed really happy and, don’t you know, she already has three boyfriends. She’ll be just fine there, and if I know her – running the place in six months.

Today is Bosses Day, and I’m happy to report that my people came through. Big time. We had balloons and posters and tiaras and boas, as is always the case. I also received a lovely blue sash that I have attached to my chair stating that I am the BEST BOSS EVER. But the best thing was the podcast greeting card from the staff, which is hilarious. I’ve been playing it all day. It ends with Tim’s goofy laugh, which never fails to crack me up. The staff also bought me lunch at Pei Wei, and everybody ordered something different. We had the Mandarin kung pao chicken, the spring chicken and chicken low mein – because I don’t have enough chicken in my life, as you know. All were very good, but some of it was very, very hot. But all in all, really a fun day. I am the best boss ever because I have the best tem ever.

There was only one downside about work today. There’s a battle going on here whether it’s enormously hot or enormously cold in the office. The thermostat is turned up, then it is turned down. It’s a bad thing. The boys are trying to freeze me out – literally.

Good news for me: No meetings to attend tonight. However, I have to get myself ready because we’re having “Girls Weekend” coming up soon. More on this in a later blog.
