I have the “creeping crud” that’s been going around with most of the women here at the office (none of the men have caught it – what is that all about?). I’m taking antibiotics to fight it – I’m not going to mess around with it the way the other girls did.
Last night my husband John and I joined the rest of the office at 115 Midtowne to celebrate our win in the “Best Places to Work” contest held by the Triangle Business Journal. What a night we had, with fabulous food and delicious wine to drink. Even in my compromised state, I managed to have a great time there. The wine helped. Best of all, I won the contest where each one of us submitted a bit of information about ourselves that we thought no one else at the office knew. I correctly matched six of 12 submissions, including myself of course. I will not divulge any secrets shared. Suffice it to say that I learned I have a very adventurous, fascinating group of people who work with me, and I was proud to toast them several times during the evening for a job well done this year.
Another source of happiness for me is the falling cost of gas. Yesterday I had to run downtown and stopped at a Shell station at South Saunders Street (also known as U.S. 401) and found gas that cost just $2.15 a gallon. I’m mighty excited about that.
Today I’m doing a crisis public relations seminar for Triangle United Way Society members. I’m a little anxious, because it’s a luncheon meeting, and I’m hungry and not sure if they will feed me before I do my presentation. Lately I’m doing a lot of talking on crisis PR, and in fact I’m also doing a lot of crisis PR for clients It’s such a specialized field that I find myself in demand for it. It’s a little hairy at times – but I love the excitement.
Amid all my recent talk about my birthday (Sept. 28 – you have 360 shopping days until the next one), I neglected to tell you about one big event on Sunday. Heather Mangrum, the darling 5-year-old daughter of my buddy Erika Mangrum, president of Iatria Spa and Health Center, took me and her mother out to tea at the Marriott Hotel at Crabtree Valley. (Erika also celebrated her birthday last week.) We were quite the hoot in our boas and tiaras. Miss Heather coveted my real tiara, which I would like to give her, but I can’t, because it was a gift. And speaking of birthday gifts, Jonathan Taylor of Crescent State Bank – this is your final notice. You are my only client not to give me a present for my birthday. Don’t think I won’t forget that.
And in case you’ve been wondering, I have been off the “no carb” wagon due to too many birthdays and other celebrations recently (we still have leftover cake here at the office). I’ll let you know when I return to it.
