Today With Patty – Oct. 9, 2006

by Patty

Let me start with a word about Ryal, our resident metrosexual. He constantly amazes me with his various fashion statements (and I used that term loosely). I kind of understood when he did that whole Miami Vice “How ya doin’?” glasses, and when he was wearing his T-shirts inside out, as well as various and sundry other fashion quirks. However, today, as our air conditioner pumps out frigid air and it’s about 70 degrees outside, our boy Ryal is wearing a wool scarf around his neck. When he’s asked about the scarf, he explains that it’s just a fashion statement and he is a trend setter. Whatever.

I just returned today from four days in Arkansas. It’s very pretty country; however, Arkansas makes North Carolina look like a metropolis. I did manage to enjoy a massage at the Turtle Cove Spa and spend a day on the water. Those of you who really know me will know I managed to miss the William J. Clinton Presidential Library. I heard it has a massage parlor inside. I really didn’t have time to bring back something to Kipp, my most vocal, ill-informed Communist liberal bedwetting Democrat employee here at work. I told him I could get him to agree with me if he would just watch Fox News for a week. He disagreed, of course.

One thing Kipp and I did agree on today was to try out the new Pei Wei restaurant. We’re very excited about it opening near our office. We talked about tasting the menu item by item so we could try every single thing on it and provide commentary. We went through the appetizers, looking forward to the minced chicken with cool lettuce wrap. As luck would have it, they forgot to pack the lettuce in our takeout order, so Kipp had to return there to retrieve them. Thankfully, the restaurant apologized for its error by giving us Dan Dan noodles and Mongolian beef along with the wraps. The food was good, except we both were not impressed by the edamame, which was a little too bland and overcooked. I thought the Dan Dan noodles were a little too spicy, but Kipp liked them, so it’s one thumbs up and one sideways on that one. We both loved the Mongolian beef. We’ll keep you posted as we go through the menu. We’re thinking of trying the salads next.
