Today With Patty – Sept. 7, 2006

by Patty

I had to haul my arse out of bed this morning at 3:30 (that’s in the a.m., folks!) in order to be dressed and ready to leave at 4:30 to get to the airport at 5 a.m. When I got to security, this was unusual – nobody frisked me, which is too bad, since it’s about the only action I get lately. I left for New York City at 6:20 a.m. with Michelle, who’s afraid of flying. Her fear was so strong that I didn’t even torment her like I normally do with someone like that, such as me saying the wheels look like they’re falling off, or the wing looks loose. I did sit myself down and promptly fell asleep. I suspect that there might have been some snoring involved too.

Our cab ride was an adventure. We kept hearing this dinging noise and finally asked the driver what it was. It was the seatbelt not hooked up dinging and we suggested – ever so politely – that the driver might want to consider putting on the seatbelt. He let us know that he was not going to wear any stinkin’ seatbelt – of course his accent was so strong that we could not really understand the reasoning behind it and it was awful hard to hear with the dinging. I noticed that he kept the turn signal on as well – so there was so additional dinging from that which created quite the chorus in the cab. I love New York.

We went to the studios of SBTV to film some news segments called “Marsha Minutes.” Marsha Firestone is founder and president of the Women Presidents’ Organization and is filming several segments on leadership, guiding your business to success and other related matters. She is doing an amazing job, taping nine segments this morning alone. She’s a trouper.

Now it’s afternoon, we’re still taping, and while Marsha is doing fine, my arse is starting to drag. I feel like I’ve been up 33 straight hours. But I’ll come back to life after we finish with the studio. Michelle and I are staying at the New York Athletic Club. I’ve never been there before, so I’m excited to see what it is like. I’ll report on it in tomorrow’s blog. And while Michelle has been to the Big Apple before, she’s never done Manhattan with me, so really she’s never done the city the right way. I’ll show her! Ought to be buckets of fun. Can’t wait to tell you about the Athletic Club and what we’ve done on the town in tomorrow’s blog.
