You’re probably wondering what I’ve been doing, since I obviously haven’t been blogging. My only excuse is that I’ve been terribly busy and my shoulder hurts. I went to see the orthopedic surgeon on Monday, and he seemed delighted to inform me that I’ve done something awful to my rotator cuff. When I told the surgeon that I was positive I would get better, he rather tartly informed me, “Patty, I’m sorry, but you don’t get to negotiate your way out of being sick.”
So I’m still wearing my sling. Interestingly enough, I can’t back up my car with my arm in a sling. Kipp is still hauling stuff around for me and being so chivalrous and kind. Today I was at the Triangle Business Journal and all of them told me how great Kipp is and how I should give him a raise. Sorry, but it just ain’t happening, Kipp, no matter how much stuff you haul for me.
I attended a meeting of the Women’s Forum of North Carolina, Inc., an invitational, non-partisan organization of diverse women leaders of proven influence. I sat next to Barbara Goodman, who is an inspiration to me because she is so passionate about public policy.
Then I headed off to a meeting with a new client at a Starbucks in Durham. With my arm in a sling and the wrong address so helpfully provided to me by the Starbucks Web site, my car’s GPS couldn’t find the location. Mapquest sent me off on a one-and-a-half hour tour of Durham by way of East BFE, and I was lucky to arrive at all, let alone on time and in the right place!
At an event last night held by the Carolinas chapter of The IndUS Entrepreneurs (TiE), a national organization that mentors young entrepreneurs through the minefields of creating start-ups, I had the opportunity to speak with the two developers who are building the new Westin Hotel at Crabtree Mall. Dicky Walia and Sanjay Mundra of the Soleil Group told me that the “Glen-Tree” will be a stunning addition to the city’s landscape. Besides a four-star hotel, the project will include office space, luxury condominiums, meeting and banquet space, and a 600-car parking garage. Wow.
