Today With Patty: A Thanksgiving Surprise for Katie

My niece Katie had a wonderful Thanksgiving surprise today. Her parents and little sister drove out from Tucson to surprise her for Thanksgiving. Katie’s been very homesick. We were originally heading to Ohio for Thanksgiving with my brother. However John’s back surgery derailed that.

So we’ve had these elaborate plans to keep it a surprise. Katie thought we were still going to Ohio and I have been tormenting her with how she will have to baby sit and other dreadful duties.

The whole office was in on it to coordinate the surprise. Katie was being a little sullen and nasty with me and now she’s feeling pretty guilty. Her mother called her on the cell and Katie was whining and her mother said she wished she could just give her a hug. Then she walked in the door and did that! Of course she cried but then so did I.

This is all great but now instead of going to Ohio and having my sister in law cook for me, I now have twelve people coming for dinner. And no time. I’m thinking about brining my turkey because I am a complete and total loser who should just be ordering out but since my cousin and my aunts are coming too, I feel compelled to show off.
