Today With Patty - Feb. 1, 2007

If you remember, yesterday I was talking about MMI being like a preschool. Now I am convinced of it. First off, they have been making hot chocolate all day, and I keep looking out the window and Nicole or Jill or one of the other kids is out playing in the snow. Of course, I had to send somebody out to take a picture of it and yell at Nicole to get inside because she is sick, and of course I have to listen to Ryal every 10 minutes, asking me if we are going to close the office because of snow. Then I have had to point out to him that while it was snowing, it was not sticking to the roads. He just wants a play day.

Of course, we are excited that our evening event was cancelled, because truth be told, I really do not want to be out in any of this, but I had a speaking engagement today (more on that shortly) and figured they hey, if I have to be out in this, so do they. Misery loves company.

It is also a double donut day here at MMI, because Kipp brought in some designer yuppie donuts, with flavors like guava mango. (OK, it really was blueberry, but the donut was actually blue.) They were some very mysterious flavors in these donuts. Meanwhile, I went to Sweet Traditions Bakery, which really has fabulous homemade donuts but probably the rudest service staff in the world. They do not even know they are rude, they just are. Anyway, great minds think alike, so we have moved through two dozen mondo donuts here. It is rumored that little Allison, who weighs about 98 pounds dripping wet, ate four donuts. Kipp has eaten 6. I am so proud.

Also, Wesley is styling today in his dorky boots with his pants legs tucked in. Luckily, nobody pointed out how goofy it looks to him, but I am wondering where the hat with the flaps is. Wesley is definitely our office stylist.

Today I moderated the Triangle Commercial Real Estate Women (TCREW) panel. The topic of the program was the impact of the growing Wake County Public School System on the Triangle real estate. They were looking for someone bright, articulate and intelligent to moderate the panel. None of these people were available, so I did it. We had a sold-out crowd of 120 people. Unfortunately, with the snow, we only had about 60 people attend. Buy hey, I was shocked we had that many, I thought it would be just me and the four panelists eating 120 lunches.
