Today With Patty: Free Wine And A Hat Trick

by Patty

Wine & Dining

It seems like forever since I last blogged. I have lots to fill you in on. Saturday night we went to dinner at 1705 Prime with some friends. Dinner was fabulous, but the best part was that when we walked in, the waiter brought over a cold bottle of pinot grigio compliments of Dean Ogan, the owner of Rocky Top Hospitality Do you not just love that in a client?

Sitting Through Three Whole Periods

Saturday afternoon we went to the hockey game where the Hurricanes wiped the floor with the Ottawa Senators. I actually watched part of the game and found it to be pretty exciting! This hockey player – I think it was Corvo – had three goals, which makes it a hat trick. Does anyone know why it is called a hat trick?

Anyway, my cousin Lizard and her husband Tom came down from Winston-Salem for the game and we took along my brother-in-law John. All-in-all, it was heaps of fun, and since it only lasted about two and a half hours, I managed to sit through it.

Slight Detour

Yesterday, Ryal and I drove down to Stanly County to meet with the county commissioners regarding the re-licensing of hydroelectric plants that could well spell problems for all of us in North Carolina. I will do a separate blog on this explaining the ramifications and how we as citizens of North Carolina must not allow someone to give away our water.

The interesting part about the trip was that Ryal is still employed. He was our navigator. Stanly County is about two hours southwest from Raleigh. Unless you are going with Ryal, who takes you all the way down to Charlotte and then has you drive back up to Winston-Salem. Needless to say, the hour and a half trip took four and a half hours, and we got made fun of for being stupid Yankees. Luckily they did not josh us too hard.

Dreams Do Come True

Today, I had lunch at Bogarts with a reporter that I had been trying to meet with for a year and a half. Everybody in the office was pretty excited that our dream came true. I was a little nervous because everybody had wanted this to happen for so long, but it turns out that she was wonderful and it was a great meeting.
