This morning, I went to the polls to vote, and it was amazing to me how empty it was. Voting is the thing that sets us apart from so many other countries, and yet so many people avail themselves of this basic and fundamental right. I was struck by not only how few people were there, but by how old they were (myself included). I did not see one person younger than me – and I am pretty old.
Everyone I talked to today said, “Oh yeah I have to vote,” but none of them had actually done it. Of course I went into the office and lectured all of my staff and am making them vote. I strongly urged them to punch the ballot for Mary Ann Baldwin, whom I strongly support. I also let them know I am rooting for Nancy McFarlane.
The Convenience of Carolina Café
I had a great lunch today at Carolina Café with Diane Kuehn of VisionPoint and Lora Allemeier of GSK. I enjoyed getting to catch up with them. Of course I do go to Carolina Café three or four times a week – so maybe I should buy their stock.
Matt asked me how good the food was because I go so often and I told him, “It is Ok but very convenient.” In fact, one of my pet peeves is that it is sometimes very difficult to get the people behind the counter to pay attention to you. Not because they are busy serving customers, but because they are extremely busy talking to one another. It is as if they were thinking, “If it wasn’t for all these customers, we could get so much done.”
Man of La Mancha
Tonight I am heading to see Man of La Mancha. and I am really looking forward to it. There is going to be a great group of friends and co-workers – there should be about 30 of us – who are all going together. So if you hear about any rowdy incidents at the North Carolina Theatre tonight – it will probably be us. I will tell you more about it tomorrow.
