Today With Patty: Man of La Mancha

by Patty

Last night I attended Man of La Mancha at the North Carolina Theatre with a huge group of friends. Joining John and I were Erika and Dave Mangrum, and together we had a big group that included John and Margaret Riddle, Diane and Patrick Dennis, Shirley and David Tucker, Jeff and Melissa Snell, Sherry and Warren Essig, Adrienne and Kelly Lumpkin, Diane and Gary Kuehn, John and Mary Cantando, Sheila and Carroll Ogle, Dean and Louise Collis, Lana and Jerry Calloway, Ken and Kathy Eller, and Doug and Susan Cowles.

The Backer’s Club before the play was great as usual, as I had the opportunity to eat numerous Chik-Fil-A nuggets (my favorite) and mingle with everyone.

The play itself was outstanding, especially Ira David Wood as Don Quixote. For those of you who do not know, he is the father of actress Evan Rachel Wood – the Evan Rachel Wood who is in a relationship with Marilyn Manson (Ewwww!). He must be so proud…..

Man of La Mancha tells the story of the “mad” knight, Don Quixote, as a play within a play, performed by Cervantes and his fellow prisoners as he awaits a hearing with the Spanish Inquisition.

Election Time

I wanted to congratulate Mary Ann Baldwin on winning an at-large seat on the Raleigh City Council. Another woman I supported was, Nancy McFarlane, who won the seat in District A. Cary Mayor Ernie McCallister lost his re-election bid, and the real problem is that the business community did not get out and vote. We are all going to pay for that.
