Today With Patty: Office Trip To The Fair

by Patty

Today the office took a field trip to the North Carolina State Fair. When I mentioned last week that I did not know what a funnel cake was, the entire office keeled over and insisted that I visit the fair to try the food. We went today, before the fair officially opened, but alas there were only a few vendors serving food.

By the way, it was unbelievably hot. We did manage to find hot dogs, corn dogs, Italian sausage, cheese fries and Philly cheese steaks – but no funnel cakes or pretzels. Despite the lack of variety, one of our interns, Heather, managed to talk a vendor into making cotton candy for her. It is safe to say she was pretty excited.

After arriving back to work everyone claimed to have a stomach ache from the food and I have noticed a slump – which I attribute to the loss of the sugar-high.

Big Bad Ball Recap

Big Bad Ball was Saturday night, and as usual, it was a smash. All kinds of fun people and great things to do highlighted the event. The best part was Liz Wallace, of Rocky Top Hospitality, and her husband Chris’ attendance at the ball (at my urging). Chris did not want to be there, and he made that very clear. However, Chris ended up winning the Bretiling watch and quickly changed his tune. Last year, I encouraged Diane Dennis and her husband, Patrick, who didn’t want to be there either, to come and he ended up winning $10,000. So the moral of the story is that if I invite you to the Big Bad Ball – you need to come.

We did bid on a number of items, but were outbid at the last minute. The only thing I ended up getting was a four-hour limo ride, and John bought Bondurant Go-Kart passes. I have no idea what that was about and who he plans on taking, because he absconded with the tickets. Why in the world we needed Bondurant Go-Kart passes is beyond me – but I guess boys will be boys.

Speaking of Women’s Health Trophy

The gals from Speaking of Women’s Health and Resources for Seniors stopped by today with this amazing trophy for MMI Associates, Inc. as being a featured sponsor of the event. They were also raving about the video that Matt did on the event, so check it out on his blog and you too will see what a great event it was.
