Today With Patty: Super Weekend

by Patty

I had quite a busy weekend and for some reason I seem to be trying all kinds of new things. Saturday morning I went to my first ever flea market with Kelly Tillett. Kelly has been going to the flea market since she was in high school and knows all the ins-and-outs. I found it fascinating, particularly the areas where people would have these big boxes of random stuff set out in the parking lot. One box may be socks, another box flashlights and yet another – salad tongs. I am afraid I could not buy socks, flashlights or tongs, but I did buy two strands of vintage pearls for $20.

Cashing In On A Bet

My mother came in on Saturday for a visit and my niece Katie picked her up at the airport. Katie ended up giving her a grand tour of the Triangle and Peace College. When I finally called in the afternoon to find out where they were, I learned my mother had not had lunch yet. Rumor has it that they “feasted” at Wendy’s. My mother showed up, I got to say hi, and then I left to go to the Heart Ball where I spent way too much money at the auction.

I actually watched the Super Bowl (sort of) yesterday. My sister, her husband and two daughters were there with my mother. She kept insisting we had to have a Super Bowl bet and she did not care what it was, as long as she got to pick the Patriots. I said I would take the Giants by three points. Guess who will be making me chicken and artichokes this weekend? I was loving it.

Carb Overload

I had another first today, when I had lunch with a client and we ate at Sarah’s Empanadas. I have never had an empanada and there was no other choice, it was the empanada or rice and beans, not very carb friendly. Needles to say I ate it anyway and now I am sleepy and tired from the carb overload. Have any of you ever felt that way? Let me know. Yawn.
