Today with Patty: The Drinks, and the Tub, are Flowing

by Patty

I have an interesting Katie story. While we were traveling all over the eastern part of the state Thanksgiving weekend, on Sunday my sister Karen gets a telephone call and I can only hear one side of it. I’m hearing things like: “how bad is it?”, “how much damage?”, “how did that happen?”. So after she gets off the phone I instinctively ask her, “What has Katie done?”.

Now do you want to hear the official party line or what I think happened? First the version given to the adults: Katie had come over to have, what else, but a bath. And instead of using her bathroom she decided to use the big spa tub in our bathroom. She says she had a two-hour soak and when she went downstairs she noticed that the family room ceiling was all wet. So, she maintains that our tub must somehow have a leak. Yea right.

Here’s what I think happened: I think Katie took a bath and as the water was cooling, turned on the tub to keep the water warm and fell asleep. And the tub overflowed. Why do I think this? Because I have evidence of many wet towels and mops. I just love having my very own 18-year-old. It is so much fun being a faux parent —- and sometimes expensive. But I love her.

Worth the Wait

Last night I went to the WakeMed 1961 Society Gala with Ken and Kathie Eller from Active Data Services. It was really a nice affair and packed to the gills. Tom Brokaw was the speaker and he was fascinating. He spoke for a good 45 minutes without ever referring to a note. I think we waited in line to get out car in valet parking longer than we did inside having dinner.

Tonight I’m headed to the Umstead for drinks with a girlfriend and I will keep you posted if the Pinot Grigio is cold this time.
