Today With Patty: Things I Have Learned

by Patty

Last night I attended the annual meeting of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, which is always a great event and a good opportunity to see everyone in town all at once. The speaker talked about the “age wave” and how the baby boomers will continue to influence our society, as we will not grow old or retire as any other previous generation. Plus, it sounds as if we are all going to live forever. I am not sure I am ready for that, and besides that my memory is going, so I will not even know if I do.

Green Bean Fever

I had a wonderful lunch today at Bogart’s today and tasted their she-crab soup, which was wonderful, but truly my favorite was the fried green beans. You may not realize this, but I love green beans. As a matter of fact, my uncle Ephram (I know, no one is named Ephram anymore) makes the best green beans in the whole wide world.

Sharing Some Advice

I want to share with you now some of the things I have learned during my recent trip to the Galapagos Islands and since I have returned.

1) When you tell someone you know that you were bitten by a sea lion, they burst out laughing. I have received more sympathy from total strangers than I did from anybody I know.

2) Wine does not cure diarrhea.

3) When people tell you that the animals are not interested in humans and they do not bite – they do not know what they are talking about.

4) Beware of anyone who tells you that the food is safe to eat and will not affect you intestinally – they are lying.

5) Imodium does not cure diarrhea.

6) Sea lions are not the cute, cuddly little creatures with the big doe eyes that you see in cartoons.

That is all for today. I will give you more truisms tomorrow.
