So what was up with the traffic yesterday? It was like the perfect storm of traffic with a huge conference at the RBC Center (that featured Steve Forbes and Colin Powell), and another 100 events at various places, all within a five-mile radius of our office. I am convinced every car in the Triangle was on the road … at the same time.
My office was monitoring the situation, and the staff convinced me that they all needed to leave early to avoid the snafu that was to occur when the RBC conference got out at 5 p.m. Of course, nobody agreed with my suggestion, which was that they stay late and let the traffic take care of itself. Go figure.
Pitching My Way To Victory
Every week at MMI, we have some sort of contest that involves setting up interviews for clients, with the winner getting a prize. The prizes range from really great ones, like gift cards to restaurants and spa services, to funky, sketchy stuff gathered from the zillion events that I attend.
I was planning a Saks Fifth Avenue gift card for this week’s contest, which was going to be a little unusual in that everyone had to spend one hour pitching to see who garnered the most interviews. So guess who won? That would be me. I did not even count my number of interviews – I only went with the publications I got us in. I love it that these whipper snappers know that the old girl still has it. Of course the contest is not over until later today, so they might be sandbagging me … but I doubt it.
Calendar Girl
Last night, I went to the launch of the Women’s Advantage Calendar that Mary Cantando has published. I received a lovely ribbon that says “Calendar Girl” because I am one of the women profiled in the calendar for March. I have always wanted to be a Calendar Girl – now I are one. Please feel free to refer to me as “Miss March”.
Kate The Great
Our very own Kate Catlin is a finalist for the Women’s Forum Young Adult Leadership Award (YALA), and she will be heading to Winston-Salem for the festivities. We are all so proud of her and feel that she is a winner everyday here at MMI. I am not going to be able to be there, but I will be rooting for her just the same.
Showering The Baby
The reason I will not be able to attend is that LaDonna Kay, who used to work for me and was my first hire in North Carolina, is having a baby. I am headed to her baby shower to celebrate.
I have a very cute outfit for the baby and a gift certificate for a pedicure for LaDonna. I figure she is going to need some pampering after the baby comes. Of course the shower is in Wendell, which is on the other side of the world, and I am sure I am going to have to pack a lunch and leave an hour early just to get there. Truth be told, it will be worth it to see LaDonna, who is like a daughter to me.
