Today with Patty: Who Doesn’t Love Babies

by Patty

Last night I went to my first Chamber CEO Roundtable. I am still not quite sure what this group does and I’ll be darned if anyone could give me an explanation. However, they did meet at the Angus Barn and we were drinking scotch…so hey, it ain’t all bad.

Jeff Snell at ENLIGN Business Brokers is the leader of the pack, so to speak, and you are not going to believe this but his wife had a baby early yesterday morning. So I am figuring there is no way I am going to see him last night but he was there! He left his lovely bride-to-be in the hospital alone to care for the fruit of her womb. (Hey, it is the season.)

I asked him if he had bought her a push present and he did not even know what that was. A push present is a lovely piece of jewelry that the man gives to the wife to commemorate the birth of the child. Luckily, Jeff had a piece of jewelry with three large pearls that he planned on giving her for the holidays. I explained to him that each pearl could represent his three sons and that he could get her additional jewelry for Christmas. I think Jeff has figured out that our relationship is going to be expensive, for him.

More Babies

LaDonna came by the office today with the most beautiful little girl, Makenzie Lane. For those of you who might remember, LaDonna was my first employee here in North Carolina. (And my favorite.) She tragically ditched me to get married and have babies. While I try to discourage that kind of activity, for some reason her motherly instincts kicked in and overrode my needs as an employer. Little Ms. Makenzie was a huge hit here at the office and my favorite part was watching Matt hold her. Apparently Matt has gotten to the ripe old age of 24 without ever holding a baby. Everyone greatly enjoyed watching him freak every time she moved. After a while he did manage to become more adept at it. Look at the pictures we have:

Tonight I’m headed to Shelia Ogle’s yearly Christmas Bash and then I am having “dessert” at my house with Bill and Jennifer. Bill doesn’t know yet that he will be helping me get my Christmas tree down.

This weekend I am headed to Herons at the Umstead for dinner. And on Sunday I am going to see The Nutcracker with a bunch of girlfriends, followed by another Christmas party. Christmas is so fattening.
