Today With Patty – May 10, 2007

by Patty

I am a complete spazz today. The reality of what is happening in my life is starting to sink in. I am completely overextended at work, we are shorthanded, and I am in the process of hiring a writer and an account executive, which I want to wrap before I go to Scotland a week and a half from now. Of course, I am completely strung out with all the committees and charity work I am doing as well. And the condo association where our offices are located is putting me over the edge. I just had to interrupt this blog to take care of a couple of units that are flooding. Who put me in charge of flooding? The same people who put me in charge of striping the parking lot and managing the trash and tree removal. I have become the maintenance man.

I had lunch at the Raleigh Professional Women’s Forum today, and I was horribly late. I had to be there though, and I could not blow it off because Pat Wright of the Pines of Carolina Girl Scout Council was the speaker and I am on their board. Pat was really interesting and gave a great overview of all the wonderful work that Pines of Carolina does to prepare young girls to become young women.

However, the lunch was kind of mysterious. It was half of a pita pocket stuffed with some lettuce and cucumber, which was fine, but then there was some glutinous-like substance – maybe it was hummus? – that I was unable to identify. I am not big on mysterious food. And then there was fruit, which is a good thing, and a small half a sandwich of chicken with pesto. But the dessert was the best. It too was mysterious. It was a cookie that had some kind of nut in it – maybe pistachio? – that was hard and yet chewy – so maybe there was some mascarpone in there? – covered with confectioners’ sugar, which I promptly got all over my black top and black pants. As I said, I am a complete spazz today.

Tonight I am headed to the open house for Paragon Commercial Bank, and frankly I feel guilty about it. I have the coolest and most wonderful banking client, Crescent State Bank, and I feel like I am cheating on them. However, I have two really close friends that work at Paragon who have asked me to attend, and so I am going. Besides, I hear they are serving shrimp as big as your fist. Who can resist that?
